FANCY PET DOOR
I wish I’d gotten a movie of Scamper making her way through the opening.
She’d reach forward with her right paw to make the opening wider for her entrance.
(Cat’s use their whiskers to judge whether they can squeeze through an opening)!
When I finally got fed up with cat litter on the bathroom floor, I made this “kitty entryway” to a pet door on the morning room porch and put the litter box out there.
Future blog entry (or two) on what happened next! [Please register for my blog.]
CUSTOM CAT TREE
I couldn’t bear to throw away the cool round brass plant stand on wheels my mother gave me when one of the wheels broke off, so I took the other two off, used chemicals to oxidize the brass, and used it in a kitty tree where they could poke a head through the center hole.
That kitty tree was tricky. The walls there are at a 66 degree angle!
(The fun metal cat face on the window was a gift from one of my piano students).
SECRET KITTY STAIRCASE
See the YouTube video of my kitty using the secret staircase in the tiny space behind the elevator in our house. (We have a pie-shaped lot, so when we made the addition for an attic-to-basement elevator, the addition was also pie-shaped. That made a tiny triangular space behind the elevator on all four floors).
The kitty staircase is on the second floor, so Domino can either go up to my hobby room in the attic and bat my beads all over everywhere or downstairs to (please, never again!) pee under the grand piano.
KITTY WINDOW SEAT
This is one way to get a cat off your bed at night. My Wendy slept here all the time… with her head on the pillow! They like to sniff the night air.
I made the kitty seat from leftover fabric from the window shade and dressing table chair cover.
CAT SCRATCHING PAD
I bought a cardboard version of this, took it apart, and used it as a pattern to make one out of wood.
FUR BABY BUNK BEDS
Found this darling doll bed at an antique show in Atlanta. It was insanely overpriced, but the kitties loved it.
